We were moving From Denver Colorado to Rio Rancho New Mexico about 490 miles so a short move for us. This was our 12th move in my career and the final move as we were moving to our retirement home. I contracted United Van Lines Mesa Moving and Storage and contracted them to do the whole move: packing everything and to move my motorcycle.
It all started when the driver came for the loading a day early to look at the house. He said he would have some overflow because the load he had before me went over the estimate but 3/4 of my household would fit on the truck. I told him I contracted for all of my stuff to fit on one truck and not to have multiple deliveries but I said we could work with that.
So he shows up the next day on time and when he opens the van he has less than 8 feet left on the trailer. I said that he would not get my 11,000 pounds in that eight feet and it would be more 3/4 overflow and not 1/4. So he starts calling his dispatcher and I call my sales guy Josh and told him this is not going to work and the Driver Mike said that it was him or no one as they did not have another truck. I told him I had to be out of the house that day. So Mike said it was in Mesa's hands and that he was leaving but they would have a truck and a team at my place by 10:00. Well they did not arrive until 12:00 and it's a truck that cannot hold all of my goods so they load it up (a good team I must say) but then have to wait on a second truck to get the rest that did not arrive until 6:45 p.m. was suppose to be there at 4:00 then 5:00 so finally left the house at 7:30 p.m.
I had a guaranteed delivery of 5 days. I had to call my sales guy and my coordinator Jennifer to find out when my goods would be delivered several times before I found out when my goods would be delivered. Well they moved my goods from these trucks into the warehouse then into another truck - needless to say I had damage. When they finally arrived they were in a hurry to get my goods off so did not get to do an inventory and the driver told me of the damage that he had seen. I had an antique vase destroyed, I had an antique picture destroyed and I had an Amish book cabinet destroyed.
Now as I said I have moved 11 times and never had anything destroyed or damaged. So on my last move the promises made were not kept and they treated me like I was the bad guy because I was upset with there lack of communications and ability to deliver what I paid for and what they promised. Glad I am never moving again but it could not have been handled any worse then the way it was handled.
