Silverback Moving & Storage Reviews - 11

Dissatisfiedby Yuriy L.

Too slow, not accurate. I am unhappy. For last four years we moved three times and these movers was worst. I am surprised that it was good reviews. No good, experience. No good experience. Not recommend to friends.

Lets start at the beginning. After calling to say they were on their way and when to expect them. Then they showed up 55 min late. The first set of furniture pads they brought from the truck had snow and ice on them. I told them they can't use them on my furniture so they tossed them aside and got different ones from the truck. The 2 men Alondo and Danny were polite and friendly but didn't seem to communicate well with each other. After moving the small items and it came time to move the larger items, they didn't have the right equipment, no furniture dolly with strap or roller ( only a plane box style dolly ) also no lifting straps so they had to fight with the heavier or bulkier items. They didn't know how to disassemble/reassemble some of the furniture ( I had to show and help just to keep things moving along ). We went from a Ranch to a Colonial and they couldn't figure out how to get the larger pieces up the stairs. Thank goodness I did this for a living after High School and knew what to do, so under my directions and with my help ( working with 1 arm in a sling from surgery ) they managed to get the furniture up the stairs. So after scratching up 2 pieces of furniture, roughing up and dropping 2 mattresses on the dirty concrete, losing 1 bed frame slat ( don't know how ) and denting the stairwell ceiling, the Nightmare was finally over.
P.S. It also took 2 times longer than quoted and almost twice as expensive.

Good service from movers, terrible administrationby Janet F.

I contracted with Schea Van Lines speaking to Kelly who was great. On the day of my move, much to my surprise, Silverback came and said they've subcontracted with Schea. I went over the cost with the two movers, $69/hr + $199. No other costs was mentioned. The movers were great. They had to stop due to rain but call their supervisor who said they should note the amount of stopped time and we would not be charged. They stopped for about an hour and then resumed moving. At the end of the move, I signed for the $69/hour and $99 (6 hours -1 hour for rain). I had previously paid $100 to hold the date. So, 5 hours X$69 = $345 + $100 = $445. I paid with a credit card and was charged 5% for that $22.25 for a grand total of $467.25. So imagine my surprise when my card was charged $621.86. I've called several times to get an accounting, but no one called back. I had to dispute the charges with my credit card company and finally got a call back from the most rude man (owner of Silverback I was told). He refused to refund my card for the over charge and basically very rudely said that he'd refund only 1/2 hour and nothing else. So, we're back to disputing the charges. I would recommend based on the movers but the owner is awful, rude and doesn't care about his customers. I'll never use this company again and I'm very disappointed in Schea Van Lines for not informing me that this other company would do the move. I think I would have not used them at all had I known. I'll consider taking Silverback to court for the over charged amount.

Quick and worry freeby Alex E.

I am very pleased with my move. Silverback moving did a great job with my move. I moved from Detroit to the Ann Arbor area and it was a breeze. They arrived on time and were courteous. I could relax knowing my move was being handled by professionals. Even with a little rain these guys got the job done in a timely manner.

Amazing Professionals, Stress-Free Moveby Ryan P.

Jason and Shawn were absolutely awesome. Our move included a fair bit of furniture--one couch, a few tables, probably a dozen chairs, well over 100 heavy boxes and totes, and sundry items from garage, basement, kitchen, etc. They were extremely polite ("sir" and "Mr" became my nickname for the day). They were expedient, helpful, and adaptable when we changed our minds about where certain items should go. Never heard one complaint or grumbling like I did with the movers we hired from Craigslist a few years ago.

We happily bought the guys lunch, and they graciously had a quick bite and then got right back to work. It was obvious they take pride in their jobs, and they worked their a**es off for 10 hours.

No damage, everything padded and secured for transport. I would not only recommend them, I would vote for them if they ran for office, because hard workers of this calibre are hard to find. 100% satisfied.

Birmingham, Michigan - Thumbs Up!by Patrick Y.

I had a 10x15 storage in Royal Oak I needed picked up and delivered to our new home in Birmingham. I phoned Silverback Moving & Storage after hearing of a friend's positive experience. They estimated our service required a staff of two handlers and a single truck. I scheduled the date and the rest was handled for us. They had estimated total service would cost roughly $850 entirely. When all was said and done the final bill came to be $694, less than anticipated. Impressed with the work of the staff and the professionalism of the office, I will use again.

Great service for a great price!by Pete S.

My girlfriend hired Silverback Moving & Storage to relocate our three bedroom from downtown Birmingham to a three bedroom just outside of town. Friends have used this company in the past and had an overall positive experience, so we figured we would do the same. The service was very professional and the final price was less than quoted. We will use this company again in the future.

Stressful time made worse by bad moving companyby Mona S.

I moved on November 11th from Novi to Northville, MI within a distance of less than 5 miles. We wre downsizing so moving from a 5 bedroom house to 3 bedroom. We were leaving behind many big items.
My complain is about the owner Jim who lacks people skills and honesty. Totally denied what was agreed and threatened to call back the movers one hour into the wrapping and loading. The son came to give an estimate and remarked we did not have much to move since we were downsizing and leaving behind many of the big items. The first thing discussed was the piano move from our house to my daughters house, to her walkout basement. The move was less than 5 miles. Did not send big enough truck and therefore had to load many boxes in our van driven by my husband and left behind many heavy things. Recommended three movers while one was standing around most of the time. Three men were recommended because a piano needed to be moved. Jim forgot to tell the movers who were not prepared to move the piano and therefore did not bring the appropriate dolly and therefore left it in the garage. I had to still pay half the money for the piano move. To top it all, he made a very rude and racist remark.

Moving is considered one of the stressful times in your life. I was extra cautious making sure everything was to go smoothly. Therefore avoided companies which were giving estimates only on the phone. Four or more companies reps came to give the estimate. Waned to make sure the reps saw what had to be moved including the piano.
Most businesses like to make sure about customer satisfaction and learning what other people in the same business are offering. In one of the phone conversations, he mentioned that he did not care what other businesses were doing.
Hired another company, Royal movers, who did a great job moving the piano to its final destination.

I would not recommend this company to anyone.

West Palm Beach to Palm Beach by William S.

I had contracted Silverback Moving & Storage to move my wife and I from West Palm Beach to Palm Beach with a stop in Boca Raton. I was more than satisfied with the work of the staff and the office was very assisting. I appreciated the good service at the fair price. I will use Silverback Moving again when in need of services throughout West Palm Beach.

a lot of hidden feesby Teresa P.

What a surprise - the driver showed me the contract which stated minimum hours & insurance charges and fuel surcharge fee. I was upset and called the owner and he said pay it or drivers can leave. There were extra hidden costs that weren't explained in the email nor on the phone conversation. There was a minimum 3 hour charge regardless of the fact that my move only took 2 hours. I ended up paying an additional $129 . The actual mover once we started was good- he communicated very well, was very polite and friendly. The driver on the other hand was moving very slow, trying to waste time - would stop unloading the truck to fold blankets, he wasn't too friendly and took smoke breaks.

There are / were NO hidden fees. Everything Teresa was told was also HIGHLLIGHTED on her contract (see above). The move finished PERFECTLY and in record time. Customer wanted our crew to drive our truck up on her landlord's lawn and when our driver said no (not wanting to damage the lawn)- her complalining about nothing began. She received an excellent move at a great price... that's what we all hope for!
