Over Promised, Under Deliveredby Richie B.

I reached out to you based on a great experience that my brother had with you. I made contact thru the email on the website and shortly after was contacted by the "owner" of the company. He came to sit down with me, looked at our home and all the things that needed to be moved and said this would be a piece of cake. We bought boxes, tape and paper from him because he was "cutting us a deal". He told us that our home (3 br approx 1600sf) would take about 7 hours to load and unload (we were moving only 7 miles across town) plus 1.5 hours of drive time. So his proposal was estimated at $1000 and he asked for a 50% deposit which we did. When the day came the movers showed up as scheduled and started to work around 9:00 AM. They mentioned several times about there should have 1 more person scheduled on this move. At 4:30 PM they were still not finished loading all our stuff. The "owner" called me and asked me could they come back tomorrow to unload. Now let explain our family dynamic....we have a 7 yr old daughter and a 4 yr old son as well as 2 older cats that are not in the best of health. Since we were told that the move would only take 1 day to load and unload we were told to leave the drawers in the dresser and of course we didn't get any clothes out. So here I am with a wife, 2 kids and 2 cats and we have no clothes except what we are wearing and no beds to sleep in either location. Even in the midst of all that we talked and agreed that it did not make sense to keep pushing these 2 guys, we felt it would be better to let them go home and get some rest and start fresh the next morning. So they came back the next morning this time with 3 guys. They started around 9:30 and finished somewhere around 1:30-2:00. Keep in mind that I ended up taking the beds apart and putting them back together. Also, we told them to put all the boxes that went upstairs into 1 room and we would sort and the same for downstairs. When they had finished the lead guy handed me a bill for somewhere around $2500. So not only had they not fulfilled their promise to get me out of one house and into another in the same day they charged me 2.5 times the original quote! When I finally got in touch with the "owner" and shared my frustration with him he immediately reduced the bill to $1650. While I was still extremely frustrated due to the fact that this was $650 over the proposal I agreed to pay it and be done with this situation. This is the story and here are a few points I would like to make.

  • The movers while nice were quick to tell you that they don't get paid a lot and make most of their money in tips. In fact when they first showed up they were talking about how much money they were going to save us and in hopes we would recognize their hard work and tip accordingly. Savings huh....not so much. They hustled verbally for 2 days constantly reminding us of how hard they were working and how they live off tips. Also, that freshness that we were hoping for by waiting until the next morning was not present. They had little regard for our new home and tore up door frame and scratched hardwoods. In fact there was a note made on the invoice and I have yet to hear from anyone about taking care of this.

  • You will notice that I used the word "owner" several times in the story. The reason I used it that way is I do not know if he owner the place or not. His name is David Oaster and I believe he may possibly be one of the most dishonest people I have ever met. I have been in sales for 17 years and I have never told a customer one thing just to get them to sign the line and then come back with something different. In business if you miss quote something you should eat that, learn from it and not make the same mistake again.

In conclusion I recognize that accidents happen, people make mistakes and things get missed and overlooked. I have always told my sales and installation teams that you will make mistakes and things will get messed up, it's inevitable because we are human, but its how you handle those mess ups and mistakes that will determine our customer's overall experience of the job that we did. You guys did a poor job of taking care of the mistakes. It's unfortunate because the reviews I read on here are very positive and I so wish that had been my experience. Unfortunately it wasn't.........

David Oaster is a very close friend of mine and we have been doing moves for his company during the busy summer season. I'm not sure why the job was quoted for 7 hrs and took much longer, but I would like to meet with you personally to discuss the issues you encountered and see what we can do to make it right. My guys know better than to ever ask for a tip and I'm very sorry if they did so and I will sit down with them and make sure they never do that again. I was downsizing from a large house to a townhouse. So the movers were very responsible and carefully packed and moved all my breakables and antiques. Nothing was broken. There were a few scratches but they sent someone to fix them and they looked perfect. All the movers were friendly, hardworking and professional. They were on time and did an excellent job. I would definitely use this company again.

Called and the next day was given a visit by the president of the company. I had a bad moving experience before and explained how it was going to be different. He brought me boxes, paper, and tape the next day. a couple days later an estimate, and they were $400 more than the estimate but that was fine because there were no problems with anything.

Move was fairly smooth, nothing broken, but many boxes were mislabeled and delivered to the wrong room in my house. Movers scheduled two days - finished early on the first day and left because they thought second day would be easy also. Unfortunately the second day took two trips and they finished very late.
