READ THE REVIEWS AND MAKE SURE THIS DOESN'T HAPPEN TO YOU!!!!

First experience moving out-of-state and let me tell you, I learned my lesson!

TIPS:
1. DO YOUR RESEARCH. A PROPER COMPANY SHOULD CHARGE BASED OFF WEIGHT NOT SQUARE FOOTAGE.
2. HAVE COMPANY GIVE YOU AN ON-SITE ESTIMATE. THEY ARE THE PROFESSIONALS AND SHOULD GIVE YOU A COMPETITIVE QUOTE AFTER ACTUALLY SEEING THE MOVING ITEMS.
3. DON'T BE AFRAID TO ASK QUESTIONS.
4. GET EVERYTHING IN WRITING!!! I MEAN EVERY LAST DETAIL!!!
5. IF IT FEELS FISHY, LISTEN TO YOUR GUT AND RUN!!!
6. DON'T LET ANY COMPANY BULLY YOU INTO TIPPING, ESPECIALLY IN CASH!!!
7. GET EVERYTHING--I MEAN EVERYTHING-- IN WRITING.

MY STORY
-Few months before my move, I searched local movers on a moving quote website within my area. I was contacted by about 5 different moving companies. Derrick from LMG gave me a quote over the phone and then an email with said quote. Was quoted about $1800 based on the number of boxes we estimated to fill (we said 25) and a 1 bedroom apartment.

-I chose Liberty Moving Group because they guaranteed my items would be moved by 9/20 (September 25th on invoice) and the price was competitive versus other movers. I questioned them being BBB approved and was given some funny reply about it not being a reliable source as companies pay to get better ratings.

-Got a revised quote of $1500 after removing my sofa from quote.

-3- 4 weeks before move, husband had another moving company come to our house and give us an estimate which totaled $1200. Many of his friends used this company but because they were only able to guarantee transport of our goods in a 3 week time window, I stayed with Liberty. I confirmed with Derrick once again that the move would arrive by 9/20 give or take a day or 2.

-A week or 2 before my move, I began packing and had questions about extra charges for adding additional boxes, etc. 5 more boxes increased my total $75, to $1575, which I thought was fair.

  • DAY OF MOVE: Movers came and initially everything was going fine. Guys were pleasant.
    Packing was OK -- They did wrap everything up in blankets but the tape was wrapped around some of my furniture and lifted the paint/ st ., and also found out they dented one of our cabinets.

  • After loading the truck, the guy said the cost was now $3000! based on the square footage of the truck that we used. Almost double the original quoted price!!!!!!!!!!! Mind you, all I added at the last minute was a piece of unframed art and a few empty plastic bins, which they assured me would not increase the price substantially. I was so upset I called my husband and they dropped it $100.!!!! This after they "strongly suggested" I give them a $300 tip in cash so they give me further discounts.

  • Plus, if we paid by credit card, they charge 3% on top of it. And the second half was due on cash or money order at the time of drop off.

    -Emailed Derrick because calling him was not possible. Zach the owner was supposed to call me several times and nothing!!

  • So the day they're supposed to drop stuff off in our new apt they don't show. I called them and was told it would take 48 hours and that I would get a confirmation call back...NADA! I call again the next day and speak to the driver and he tells me i'm going to get it on Friday but I got very angry and told them i paid for family to fly down to help with the moving.

  • Finally, they drop stuff off 2 days later, and I had to rent a UHAUL truck because the driver didn't want to bring the truck into the apartment complex. The movers start arguing because the driver didn't tell them I had 16 steps up to my apartment--which I mentioned upon initial quote--and only brought the furniture up to the top of the landing. This was supposed to be a FULL-Service move...but no, they didn't reassemble my bed as they said they would.

  • If you plan on using this company..GOOD LUCK!!! Be smart! I hope my experience can prepare you for what you will face.

Estimator Ed Scott was very professional and informative. Driver, Manny Sanchez was very patient with us, kept his crew on task at both locations, and was prompt and polite. Very willing to listen to our concerns and take some extra time to make my mother happy.
