4 out of 5
A reliable alternative to driving cross country.by Courtney L.

I used U-Pack Moving Containers to move from Pittsburgh, PA to a small town in West Texas. I submitted online for a quote, and received a call within the same day. The truck delivering my trailer (yes, a full-size tractor trailer) a few hours later than expected, but within a reasonable amount of time on the day of my move. We loaded and unloaded it ourselves, despite the ability to pay for movers. This approach was the simplest and cheapest cross-country move available. The day after we packed and locked the truck, the company sent someone to get it. The truck arrived in Texas on the day and within the time frame they promised.
Only drawbacks: Getting up the retaining wall in the trailer, and keeping down the amount of road dust on my stuff. Also, you must have a place where the trailer can sit overnight on both ends of the move. Otherwise, it went smoother than I thought.
Best parts: We didn't have to drive a moving truck cross country. The cost of getting the trailer to and from the locations was included. We had the option to store the goods if the need arose. Also, we paid only for the square footage used. No major hassles.
If you go this route, it's simpler to have them handle the loading and unloading, but doing it yourself saves money. If I move back across country, I will use them again.
Tips: Make sure you have a place to park the trailer at old and new locations. Let your neighbors know (angry neighbors are never fun). Moving midweek saves you money. If you're flexible with your move, they will quote out several dates for you.
