"Horrible experience, never again!"Review of Us Express Relocation
Totally unprofessional. After requesting quotes, I got a call from John who said he owned the company and he was local (Atlanta) and his daughter went to university in the town I was moving (New Orleans, now I wonder if he even has a daughter). He gave me an estimate based on the inventory we reviewed. After getting other quotes I realized the move would be more expensive than I thought, so I asked him for an estimate just for certain items. It came to about $1250. I told him my budget was about $1500 and asked if his crew would allow me to add in a few items that would bring me to this amount, he said of course, no problem.
The movers showed up, the head guy walked in and said this is too much, it will cost you more, even though the inventory included all of the items he was seeing in the one-bedroom apartment plus several boxes included in the estimate that weren't even there and that they didn't even take. I had asked if the extra items to bring my bill to $1500 could be taken from my storage unit close by, and that had been agreed upon my John but also included several boxes and suitcases. I ended up paying $1600, only one suitcase went. No boxes, and just the furniture. I told the head guy at my house that John the owner had assured me I could bring my items and I was perplexed as to why the estimate was so far off...the guy said "John isn't the owner, Ben is". I told him John told me he was the owner, and this guy said "Ben signs my checks, John is a liar." So professional, let me tell you. Unfortunately I started my new job in a few days so I just couldn't cancel and start the process over again. In addition, John assured me I would have my items prior to my new job beginning the following Monday, despite it being Thanksgiving weekend (I triple-checked with him). The moving guy also told me since it was under 500 miles, there was no reason that the items would not show up over the weekend.
I get a call on Friday from Ben, the real owner (maybe?) (they picked up my items on Tuesday) to tell me he had good news for me, that my items would arrive on Tuesday. I was like, that is not what I was told by the guy who picked up my stuff or John, the salesguy, or owner, or whoever he is. He told me indeed John partially owned the company, but since I signed the contract saying items could be delivered between 2 and 7 days, and Tuesday would be day 7 (actually 8 if you count the day the items were picked up), that it was too bad. I put my husband on the phone because I was livid, and he proceeded to tell my husband I was ignorant, and because I signed the contract and it was my fault and it was too bad. When my husband start arguing with him he just kept rambling and would not let him get a word in. Ben then said it was actually in the fine print that it could take a month to get our items so we should be happy with a turnaround of a week...for 487 miles, really? GREAT CUSTOMER SERVICE! I asked my husband to let me talk to him, he said no and hung up with him. I was angry with my husband for not allowing me to talk to him again, he told me that Ben said some other unflattering things about me (that he still refuses to tell me) and then he would not allow me to be insulted.
So, that evening after I resigned myself to remain in Atlanta for extra night and just sleep on the floor in NOLA on Sunday and Monday, I get a call from the driver that my items would be delivered Sunday between 1 and 5. I was happy with the change of plans, but had to prepare to leave the next day. I drove with my five year old daughter, three cats and a U-haul trailer I rented to take my boxes that these people refused to take, and spent the night in Mobile, AL to continue to trek to New Orleans the following morning. At 8:30am I get a call from the driver that he would arrive between 10 and 11. Needless to say it was great the items would be there early, but I couldn't be! So I told them the situation and they unloaded the truck and I arrived around 11:15am. This part of the move was actually the most pleasant. The guys in New Orleans were nice, did a little extra work like hook up the washing machine and put another bed together, so I tipped them and bought them lunch. I had a broken chair and scratch on an expensive coffee table that I am sure the company doesn't give a hoot about, but at least my TV made it in once piece, I was worried they would break it on purpose after my phone call with Ben.
When my husband moved his items from Tampa to Atlanta a few months prior, he hired movers through U-haul to help and it was a disaster as they were lazy and careless. I thought going with a real moving company would be better, and it was a disaster as well. If I move again, I will just sell everything, or maybe set it all on fire, and just buy new stuff or have my friends help. US Express customer service is awful, the contractors they hire, at least in Atlanta, are unprofessional, and I hope nobody else ever has to suffer through an experience such as this. The only reason there are two stars in any of the ratings categories was because of the crew in New Orleans/Driver. After being lied to about pricing and delivery timing, and being called ignorant by the supposed owner, I do not recommend this company to anyone. I apologize to all of the legitimate companies I shunned after being lured to US Express by lies. I am ignorant after all, I guess.
