"Worst move we have ever experienced. "Review of King's Moving & Storage
Our move with King’s Moving & Storage in Junction City, Kansas had a promising start. The original estimator (who is no longer with the company) seemed highly professional and thorough. It would have been $750 for full coverage insurance, and even though my job would reimburse me, I neither wanted to lay out this amount out of pocket, nor to burden my new employer with what I thought was an unnecessary expense. We have moved more times than I care to count, and we had more than enough experience to pack ourselves. Damage in our past moves had always been trivial, and we had no reason to think a mover with the level of experience King’s claimed could be bad.
Sorry to say, they could. For starters, our refrigerator as delivered was essentially destroyed. The doors were removed for whatever reason, but in doing so the wiring was actually ripped out. The delivery driver actually pointed this out, most likely in self-protection. The damage was that egregious.
In like manner, a particle board desk, hutch, and shelf set was battered beyond use. Several wooden bed frames were disassembled to the level of individual parts – the movers had no idea how to reassemble them. Some very heavy pieces, an oak dining table and an upright piano, were very obviously dented and scratched – the lid of the latter no longer closes. Every single item in several boxes was broken, as though the boxes were stomped flat. Months later, we still find broken stuff.
As I said, we aren’t new to moving, and understand some breakage is inevitable. The amount of damage here basically amounts to vandalism. We are being given 60 cents per pound for a handful of items. A refrigerator repairman wouldn’t come out for the money we’d get for the 383-pound refrigerator. The only way I can take this is as an insult, on top of the original injury. Would they really have been this careless if they knew they had to answer for their carelessness – if that’s what it was. It’s almost as though the lower rate insurance was a license to break things. My suggestion would be to not give King’s that license, and look elsewhere for your moving needs.
