On rare occasions, I am privileged to work with a company that truly leaves their mark on every aspect through the process; especially when it comes to moving. I am a person who has not had the need to move for the past 12 years, and I was a bit stressed with all the planning and anticipation. Great Nation Van Lines are highly motivated professionals driven to succeed and made all your worries dissipate. I must say, it was a true honor to use Great Nation Van Lines for my move from Timonium, MD to Chicago, IL. Their dedication, respect to the customer (myself), incomparable ability to exceed, surpassed all my expectations. I highly recommend. Thanks, Valentina

Great Nation Van Lines Reviews - 6
It was maddening to sleep on the floor for a week without our belongings in our new home when we fully expected the delivery date to be what was communicated over the phone.— It was frustrating to persistently request and argue for compensation for what we felt was due. I believe nothing would have changed if it weren’t for our reviews. *In the end, the company strived to correct matters, and we received a refund for the controversial aspects of the payment and missing tools.
Cautionary Measures: The Rate. The company creates an algorithm for your rate and a “discount” which can be confusing. Keep an eye on the “Total Price”. After a negotiated refund, it cost us nearly $4,500 to move 6,000 lbs. from Virginia to Colorado. In hindsight, I would have just sold everything and bought new.The Weight. Temper your expectations. Our minimal amount of stuff, which fit in an 800 sq.ft. apartment, turned out to be 40% more than I estimated. You’re at the company’s mercy here. But that’s true for all moving companies. You can request documentation of a truck that’s been at a weigh station, but how you know that that truck contains your stuff and is separate from other’s belongings is beyond me.The Delivery Date. A most crucial factor. The sales pitch is that your moved belongings can arrive at their destination when you want to move in, pending any extreme weather. The fine print reality is that you agree to a 21-day window for the company to deliver whenever the logistics are suitable for them. If you’ve got 21 days to burn, then this isn’t an issue.
Bright Spots: Communications. The sales person was friendly and secured my trust even though the company could not deliver on his promises. The customer service was always accessible and expressed diligent desire to help, despite not having the authority to always fulfill their promises. After persistent complaint about our dissatisfaction with the service (and missing toolbox), the owner was determined to resolve the situation and made amends by providing a relative refund for the rate mixup. The Packing Service. While some items like soup cans were triple-packed with newspaper and silverware seemingly thrown in the bottom of a box, the packers were very friendly, prompt, and efficient. That service was better than the alternative at the time.
We did a lot of research on interstate moving companies. All of them looked dreadful, but this one appeared to have the fewest complaints. If you’re okay with the cautionary measures noted above, then I suppose you’d be okay with the company too.
We chose Great Nation after hearing scary moving stories about other very large national moving chains. Our move from Silver Spring, MD to New York City went smoothly and wonderfully well. GN movers packed up our delicate Grandfather Clock, artwork and other belongings with such great care and delivered them to our Manhattan apartment and storage unit without a hitch. Nothing was damaged or lost. GN office staff were kind and helpful in providing our move estimate and patiently worked with us as our move expanded. I would highly recommend this moving company
We had a complicated move in which we had to stage our home and store our belongings till house sold. They were able to move first part then come back and do second part, store us for 45 days till we settled on our new home. Weekends were the same price as weekdays. Keller Williams Reality referred us and I am glad we used Great Nation Van Lines,
DO NOT USE THIS COMPANY! EVEN IF IT IS YOUR ONLY OPTION!
RENT A UHAUL AND MOVE YOURSELF IF YOU HAVE TO!
I am a physician moving from DC to Michigan for work and I thought a moving company would help me settle in quickly since I needed to start at the hospital just two days after arriving in town. But using this company turned out to be the worst consumer decision I have ever made.
Moving is always stressful but Great Nation Van Lines has a knack for making the process SO MUCH worse.
Things started off well, the agent I worked with quoted a fair price and the packing movers showed up on time and did a great job.
HOWEVER, once the company had all my things and I was at their mercy, the horrific service and trickery began.
PRICES CHANGE UNEXPECTEDLY: The agent came back with a new price that did not reflect the calculations on the invoice. They claimed that the agent had made a typo and that I would need to pay double the original agreed upon price. Thank god I saved every document they gave me so after many emails and phone calls they agreed to the original pricing.
THE OWNER IS RUDE AND UNTRUSTWORTHY: Every time I spoke with the owner, David, he yelled and wouldn't let me get a word in edgewise, he would cut me off mid-sentence. It is difficult to accurately describe what a rude and self absorbed human being this man is but I don't recommend finding out for yourself. He has no concept of empathy for the customer and is only interested in discussing his own hardships with his business.
After solving the price mixup, I got final confirmation of the date and time frame of the drop off and took time off from the hospital (not an easy thing to do with late notice as a doctor). Then less than 12 hours before their scheduled arrival time I got a call from the driver saying that they would arrive a day later. They did not have an agent call to give me a proper explanation for the change, they had the driver tell me in an offhand comment.
I was baffled after hearing this from the driver so I called the owner who said things were very busy for him in his business and that he had to take care of someone else first. I explained that it is very difficult for me to take time off from my work because I work in the medical field. He then proceeded to lecture me and tell me that I should be more understanding of his situation, that "as a doctor I need to learn to handle emergencies and difficulties". I was livid at this point and said I needed to get off the phone. Later on I received text message apologies.
- THEY DO NOT HONOR AGREEMENTS: After the issue with the charges and the last minute time change the owner said he would offer me a $250 discount and that the movers would arrive the next day between 8am and 10am. I agreed and went to take out the exact amount of remaining money and managed to find a friend to be at the house during drop off.
The movers arrived an hour late outside the window and upon arrival the driver told my friend that the payment was not enough and that if I didn't come up with the additional $100 they would drive away with my things. I had to leave the hospital in the middle of working with a patient to deal with the issue after the owner called yelling and threatening me.
The movers left their garbage, did not finish setting up the furniture and did not unpack. I was told by the agent that I was getting a full service move with packing, shipment and unpacking. At this point I am exhausted from the poor treatment from the owner and the company that I'd rather unpack, set up furniture and throw garbage myself.
I deeply regret having used Great Nation Van Lines. Don't make the same mistake I did, do yourself a favor and use another company or move yourself.
They did an amazing job! I moved from DC to Chicago. They were able to match the best offer I received and there were no hidden fees. They came on time, nothing was damaged in the move, and they were able to guarantee a deliver date within 3 days. They also set up my desk and bed! I highly recommend them to anyone who is moving!
