"Nightmare moving experience"Review of Express Van Line
Absolute nightmare from the start!! Express Vanline was contracted by Colonial Van Lines without my knowledge until they arrived at my storage unit, to begin the pick up of my belongings. There was a misunderstanding regarding whether or not the tractor/trailer would have enough room to get in the storage property gates. I took responsibility for this mistake and had to pay over $300 for the "shuttle service." Then I have Alex park at the rear of the building since I figured a few extra steps to an elevator was much better / more convenient than two flights of stairs. Alex charged me for a "long haul." He set up an "office area," with my step stool and a small set of storage containers, right outside my storage entry. His laborer worked hard at getting my stuff to the truck while Alex kept me occupied with paperwork and waiting on him while he took phone calls (so very unprofessional especially when he got very loud on one of the calls. It was very obvious that he was arguing with someone). I asked Alex to repack a ten gallon fish tank and a medium size shadow box so that he would be responsible for them making it to Long Island, NY (from Las Vegas, NV) without being damaged. He had me sign a revised contract even tho the one I signed with Colonial Van Lines was a binding contract. Alex had me so stress out that I had to remove myself for near my storage unit and Alex. Thank goodness my dad was there to kinda keep watch on what was going on while I went and gained my composure. As the unit was nearly empty, Alex made me feel guilty for him having to be working on a Sunday afternoon (although Colonial Van Lines knew at least 2 weeks in advance that I needed the pick up on Monday or Wednesday but since it didn't work with Alex's schedule, they asked to do it on Sunday) and he convinced me to leave a few items behind because "You can replace them cheaply when you move."
We proceed to the second pick up spot, my home. My parents and I move all my belongings out of my room to the front porch, for fear that Alex will want to complain about a "long haul" again. Alex asks my parents if they have a charger for his phone as it is about to die. I got angry cuz his phone is not our problem. I showed Alex a box of some small Tiffany desk lamps that I was hoping for a little extra care in moving them. Alex said it was no problem.
This all took place on the 4th of the month. As the laborer was finishing up, Alex took me aside to discuss his drivers travel and that he may arrive in NY on the 11th however the earliest I could get the keys was the morning of the 12th. Alex stated that he thought the driver would be in NY around the 11th or 12th.Lastly before Alex and the laborer left my home, Alex needed me to sign more paperwork!! He reminded me how important good reviews were and asked if we are ok now and apologized for causing me to cry earlier.
On the 10th, I moved to NY. On the 12th, I got the keys to the new place. On the 17th, I have heard nothing about the drivers ETA so I inquire with Colonial Van Lines. No one knows anything there either but said they would follow up with Alex and see what's up. On the 18th, in the evening, Alex contacts me. He inquires on my payment of the balance due and tells me that the driver is expected the next day. No call/no show from the driver. My inquiries to Alex just gets me excuses, blame and lies. I continue to keep updates/inquiries with Colonial Van Lines as well and I wait it out cuz I have no choice.
On the 23rd, I hear from the delivery driver, who is contracted to pick up my belongings from a warehouse in the Bronx and deliver it. He gives me the run down of what his schedule entails and we do a 3 way call to schedule the pick up of my stuff, for the 24th between 8-10am. Whatever all took place in the drivers schedule, I'm not really sure although he kept in contact with me very well. The end result was him delivering to me on the 26th with an arrival time of 930pm (My binding contract listed the 25th as the last "deliver by" date).
My boxes were in VERY BAD condition!! The few pieces of furniture that I had were never wrapped in packing blankets and are very scratched up, as well as one of the drawers was broken now. The special request for the packaging of my shadow box and aquarium was not done properly cuz the aquarium was all shattered when delivered. And the box of lamps was never even delivered to my home, as well as a box of China (4 place settings).
It has been 6 weeks since delivery and still no recovery of the lamps nor the China and no compensation for delivering late (Colonial said I would be compensated). I will never ever recommend Express nor Colonial Van Lines to anyone. Lies Lies Lies. Now I plan to file in civil court to get this resolved. Do not use these liars for your move!!
